Lomax History
The Lomax Companies (TLC) is a holding company that owns and manages a diverse portfolio of operating businesses and ventures engaged in a variety of industries including technology, real estate, media, agribusiness, and investing.
History: The Lomax Companies was founded by Walter P. Lomax, Jr., M.D. who began his career as a solo practitioner in 1958 in the same South Philadelphia neighborhood where he was born and raised. From 1958 to 1989, Dr. Lomax focused on providing high quality medical services in underserved areas in and around Philadelphia. From 1990 to 2002 these high quality medical services were extended to prison inmates and to certain Medicaid and Medicare patients in Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey. In 2002 Dr. Lomax and his family decided to expand his entrepreneurial vision to a diversified portfolio of businesses and investments.
Values: The Lomax family has a longstanding commitment to actively working in the African-American community. We demonstrate this commitment through many of our commercial ventures such as
WURD Radio, LLC which provides Philadelphia’s only African American owned and operated talk-radio station. Separately, the Lomax family has provided longstanding philanthropic support to African-American institutions. in 2003, Dr. Lomax organized the Lomax Family Foundation to promote health, art, culture and education in the African-American community.
